At work again

After passing some time without working in SL, it has been hard to begin again. Thanks to Louise´s help I´ve been able to start learning to build.
Here I show a picture in which both we are building a snowman.

Our first collaborative work in SL

We have had to do one Travel Guide like the end of 3th section of the Course. Really has been stressed to know that we have to do it before december 31.

How to organize a virtual travel visiting the most attactive places in which we have been?

A couple of weeks ago I got inworld and reached Muvenation site, where there were some people watching some boxes. Even, one of them suggested me to "touch" the box. I did it, and I could see the message: "HELLO, BERRITZAILE ZSUM". It was really strange, because I didn´t know that sort of possibilities.....

After some days, I had the good luck of finding one avatar, Samu, who, whith great patiente, explained me the way - let´s say the beginning - to work whith notecards and srcipts. Thanks again Samu. This is really collaborative work, yes.

After a while, and already knowing a little, I met 42 named avatar, born in the US but living in Sidney. Another intensive conversation and a little expermentation.....

and at the end the help of Mobius, another component of Muve´s group in order to solve one technical question.

So, the body of knowledge needed to make the travel guide has been got by talking to one avatar, after to another, teleporting from one site to another.... and asking a lot.
I think it´s a rather good way to learn; I mean on the basis on the relations and the share of knowledge. I´ve felt always helped by others, really.

After this "litle formations", the fact of sharing things in our gruop has been really satisfactory, even pleasant; I could say we really have a lot of curiosity and enthusiasm to learn. Yes, good way.

All this told and underliying again the importance of colaboration and constructivism in learning environments, I ask myself if had been more productive some direct formation from the teachers of the Course.

Perhaps better to teach which is one notecard, one script, what does mean to edit one object,... and all this stuff ? Probably, I´m not sure, but I´ve felt myself in certain way "alone", without knowing the basis.

I´m not the answer, I´m not sure at all, I´ll see the next dynamics of the Course to have some funded opinions about all that.

Comments about some matters of the course

Yes, could be a good moment to answer these proposed questions.

* Was it easy to define objectives and criteria?
Yes, for us has been rather easy to define objetives, because all of us have similar aims, the educational potential of Second Life.

* How did you distribute the work?
First, each of all have visited and choose some places, using the "reach option" of SL. After we have visited the places choosen for other components of the group. Later we have had a couple of meetings in SL to choose the most relevant site and to organize the work. In the meantime we have sent each other some information via email to complete a template.

* How did you feel about your own particpation?
I feel good enough about my participation, taking in mind my work planning.

* How did you feel about other participation?
It has been easy at all. We have understood we need to complete the work, and we have done it, in a very pleasent environment.

* Where there any problems, or misunderstandings?
Not significant misunderstandings, the distribution of the work wich each component had to have was clear enough.

Sites visited

I´ve examined The University of Essen. Even I cannot control a lot of tools in SL, I´ve has the impression of visiting one very interesting site. There where pannels whith photographs of diferents cities in Europe and Africa, and the chance of acces to pictures, videos,... about the cities.

After I´ve gone to Etiopa Educational Center, devoted to show and teach about environmental matters. There is a museum, rent of houses. Rather big site, there is a there is a train fueled with energy proceding for air generator, wich makes a travel around the site.

Subgrupo 4.3 Cedro

Bueno, pues ya estoy asignado a un subgrupo, junto a Azucena, Cris, Pilar Pilar lo siento pero no encuentro tu foto) y José Luis.
No he comprendido bien como hay que dar inicio a esta actividad 3, pero lo que está claro es que hay que organizarse deprisa para no estar el último día como locos.
1) Hay que definir bien lo que hay que hacer - alcance -. Todos lo tenemos que entender, no importa si pasamos tiempo en esta tarea.
2) Distribuir el trabajo de cada componente del grupo. Secuenciar las actividades, estimar los tiempos y crear hitos, es decir fechas - pocas claro que no hay mucho tiempo - en las que nos comprometamos a aportar lo que se ha definido con antelación.
3)Definir cómo - supongo que wiki, SL o ambos - y cuando nos vamos a comunicar.
4) Y una vez que hayamos hecho esto..... manos a la obra.

Fashion Show

I have had the chance to go to fashion show orgaized by Group 4. Has been a curious experience; a lot of avatar talking to each other without any pause. You can talk to your friends, dance, even to encourage the participants. Really like in RL. Very good for socialize people.
Anyway, I wait for the moment in wich I could examine the pedagogical possibilities of SL. I´m sure there are a lot, but I can´t still imagine them very clear. I´m agree when some people say that there is no more e-learning, no more d-learning, only learning; I think the border betweeen them is going to blur in the near future, and that will be a sort of integration between Moddle - or other tool -SL, blogs, wikis, sincronous activities like conferences, .... But this will require tons of competence in Information Tecnology, or at least the competence of learn to learn very quicly. For people like me, not digital native, this is becoming a little dificult (when I learned what was mp3, it appears mp4) because the pace of change is almost exponential.

In the meantime, and to be ready for the new era, I´ve decided to change my hairstyle ;)

Anyway, I feel my skills in SL are still very low. I spent time to get things been done. Probably is because I can go into in S without regurarly, and each time I go into is like beginning one more.

Real experience in SL

Really, in the beginning my relation with SL has been terriyfing. When I was triying to download the program into my PC, something occurs and the PC doesn´t work anymore. I sent the PC to Toshiba to reparation....

Anyway, I´ve got another PC and at last I have submerge myself in SL.
I felt lost during some hours, moving fron one site to another, and really has been harder than I thought.
Fortunatelly I found a mentor wich helped me to chat, even voice chat and reaches our Island. In this moment the joy I´ve experienced has been very strong. Really it was worth to try.
Now I´m going - little by little - to try to link all this possibilities with educational matters, to examine how we can apply them with young people, trying to innovate in mandatory education.
